Sense and Sensibility: Although Sense and Sensibility is the first novel of Jane Austin, she has already had a good command of writing skills. Each plot of the story has undergone the profound thinking so that both the superficial causal relationship and the hidden essential reason are natural and reasonable. The heroine produces the sensible guesses and judgments based on superficial phenomena. Although the careful reader might have doubt from time to time, their thinking would develop with the observation accordingly, and when the final result appears, it is distinctly different from the superficial phenomenon and then the unexpected comedy effect comes into being. If the readers re-read it from the back again, they will find that the essential reason for the final result has shown early in and between the lines. The plot of the novel revolves around the heroine`s mate selection activities and aims at revealing the ugly fashion of the British social trend that women would regard the marriage as the way to seek economic security and improve the economic status while ignore women`s own feelings and human rights. The heroines in the novel pursue the equal exchanges and communication with men in thoughts and feelings, demand the equal rights in social status, insist on independent observation, analysis and freedom in the selection of their husband. At that time of the United Kingdom, it is almost as strong as the yell to the resistance. Ebook.
Sense and Sensibility (with and Introduction by Reginald Brimley Johnson) (2015)
ISBN: 9781420951165 bzw. 1420951165, in Englisch, Digireads.com, Taschenbuch, neu.
Sense and Sensibility (with and Introduction by Reginald Brimley Johnson), Jane Austen´s first published novel, ´´Sense and Sensibility´´ is the classic coming of age story of two sisters, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, who have contrasting temperaments. On the surface Elinor, the older sister represents sense, or reason, while Marianne represents sensibility, or emotion; however upon closer examination we find that they both exhibit varying aspects of each characteristic. Set in southwest England, in the towns of London and Kent, the novel follows the lives of the two sisters as they struggle to find love, romance, and ultimately deal with the heartbreaks along the way. The novel ponders the question of which is the best characteristic, sense or sensibility. It is unclear ultimately what Austen intended as the answer to this question, whether or not she left the novel purposefully ambiguous or if her suggestion is that a proper temperament requires some measure of both qualities. ´´Sense and Sensibility´´ is a compelling study of character and one of the great achievements of the romantic genre. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper and includes an introduction by Reginald Brimley Johnson. Taschenbuch, 16.06.2015.
