This study of "symbolic actions" takes the unlikely but very illuminating starting point of tracing clusters of recurring images "heel" of bread, "footnote", "boiling with laughter", "asphixate[d] with speed," "prey-seeking stoop"-and cross-references and imagines what underlying statement and revelation of philosophy this often unconscious recurring selectivity is based in. She also describes what "self-organizing" plot structures turn up, when looking at the evolution and internal relationship of these image interactions and their lively twists and turns. This is a book easy to read but extremely perceptive, with the real eye of an original critic.
