The Indy media soon revealed that the despicable Jack Blackwell was an expert on the dark side of the internet, listening to the Roxie customers 24/7 in the "privacy" of their homes, scamming them in almost every way possible. The revelation of this sickening invasion of privacy soon forces the Stanford grads out of business. The Roxie customers felt betrayed and angry at Scott for lying about the security of his system. This results in his severe depression caused by yet another failure. After the unsuccessful start-up, Susan, Scott's love interest and a warrior with metastatic breast cancer, designates him as her medical surrogate.
