This book is a series of Classic novels base on Magical stories once told in Africa. It's about a place with no running water, electricity or schools; the few people who knew about schools wanted their children to go to them, but the nearest school was in Cano, a town far, far away on the other side of the Mountains. A man called Bobu heard about the schools in Cano and was keen to see his children go there, but the only road in Kinbo came to a dead end in the Mountains. Kinbo was rich in everything but was ruled by a foolish King called Albert. He didn’t value schooling very much as he’d never been to one. So when Bobu went to see the King to ask for help to extend the road to Cano, the King said to him, ‘Go away, you naughty man, there is no need for a road to Cano, not everyone in this Kingdom even uses the road we’ve already got!’ Bobu replied, ‘I know people are scared of walking on the road, because they think they will be hit by horses, but I want to make the road longer so our children can go to school. Having a good education will help to create a better society.’ The King tossed his head and shouted, ‘Can’t you see that it is impossible to create a road with the Mountains standing in the way?’ ‘Your majesty, all we need is some tools and few men to clear the Path,’ Bobu replied in a soft tone. But the King shouted adamantly, ‘Go away, I can’t help you!’ ‘But King, what about your own children? I’m sure they would love to go to school and meet other children,’ suggested Bobu. ‘School is no use to them, they learn nothing but how to play in the fields!’ the King shouted foolishly. Bobu replied ‘They do learn many of things that are vital to our society; we need doctors, lawyers, dentists and nurses just like the big towns and cities.’ ‘If that’s true, find me a doctor who can cure my daughter’s illness!’ King Albert requested. Despite his disapproval of schools, he was keen to find a cure for his beloved daughter Princess Kaya, who was dying of a serious heart disease. According to his wife, the general wisdom was that she could only be cured by the magical power of a butterfly heart, which was owned by a nasty Monster that lived in a far and distant land only known to Hopping Man. ‘Suppose the story of the butterfly heart is a myth, what will you do?’ asked Bobu ‘Rubbish!’ the King replied. Bobu persisted in his questioning. ‘Has it cured anyone before?’ ‘Hey, stop that! It will cure my daughter!’ answered King Albert. ‘King Albert, we need to Move away from our ancient ways,’ suggested Bobu ‘Any cure is as good as another,’ the King Mocked. Bobu couldn’t understand why the King was so defiant, when all he could see in his eyes was desperation. The King knew that it was Modern advances in medicine that had kept his daughter alive all these years, but still he thought they where unreliable. ‘Rubbish!’ shouted the King again. ‘Guards! Guards!! Guards!!!’ he screamed. ‘Take this man away!’ ‘Come here you!’ said one of the guards, and they grabbed Bobu by the scruff of the neck and threw him onto the road outside. Bobu walked away disappointed; he knew King Albert didn’t understand the need for a road. As he walked along the dusty road, he came across an old friend who offered to help him to extend the road to Cano. They managed to find a couple of other people who were ready to give them a helping hand. The four of them worked during the week and took a break at weekends. One Morning they went to work as usual, but as they were breaKing the rock they found a narrow hole leading in a different direction. They stopped work and followed the Path, which led them to a secret underground river. It didn’t mean anything to them, so they retraced their steps back and carried on worKing. But that night, when Bobu told his wife about the secret river, she remembered a story her great-great-grandfather had told her about a golden river. This book has already been compared by some commentators to Harry Potter!
