Language: English. Brand new Book. BOOK SUMMARY Vatican guardian Gabriella Raphael and Italian Carabinieri Captain Lucas di Angelo encounter strange chimeras such as griffins and ape-human hybrids at ancient ruins and in Early Christian churches in Rome. Are these creatures being bred at laboratories in Rome by an evil ancient society---The Watchers of the Light---a group that aims to control the world? With murderers on their trail, Gabriella and Luke and their Vatican associates race about Rome, from the Roman Forum and Pincio Park to the basilicas of Constanza, Lucina, Cecelia, Sabina, and Clemente, to the ancient ruins of Pompeii and Etruscan Cerveteri seeking to solve the mystery of the peculiar creatures they have found. In the Languedoc of France they find the incorrupt body of a mysterious giant human-like being. Did evil enter humanity through crossbreeding between humans and demons giving rise to an evil gene which plagues all humans to this day? Whom can they trust? Do violence and destruction lurk amidst the beauty and tranquility of Rome? Will an attempt to murder the pope succeed and bring the Watchers to power in the Vatican? The Watchers claim that hybrids and chimeras help humankind to cure diseases and heal people and are part of God's plan for the universe, making science a miracle maker of sorts. The Guardians of the Light believe that some chimeras and hybrids are evil, not good, and should not be allowed to exist. Mad scientists working for the Watchers may be trying to create evil chimeras aimed at controlling and destroying the world. The Chimera Deception asks the question: "How should human-animal hybrids, chimeras, and clones be regulated by law, internationally?" Shockingly, few laws currently exist addressing this futuristic issue of genetic engineering. The book blurs the distinction between reality and the imagination in order to get the reader to discern, for himself or herself, what creations are ethically acceptable as science strives to cure human diseases and prolong life. To what extent are scientific advances a God-given gift as opposed to methods of evil? Do we, for example, really want to allow scientists to create half-human, half-ape hybrids or to clone human beings? Future generations will face these issues and have to answer these questions. Chapter 1 Excerpt: Italian Carabinieri Captain Lucas di Angelo first encountered Gabriella Raphael at twilight in Rome in Villa Borghese Park near the Temple of Aesculapius, the Greek god of healing and medicine. As di Angelo strode along the sidewalk in the woman's direction, ducks quacked and, upset at being disturbed, flew up from the water into the parkland while pigeons hurriedly ran out of his way noiselessly. Di Angelo's cape blew behind him in the sudden wind while pink petals from budding trees landed on him and upon the path. At first glance Gabriella appeared to be an illusion at dusk---a specter in a lilac gown reflected in the moonlight, standing hip deep in the muddy water of the pond beside the Temple. Her pale skin looked alabaster in the shadows of the rising full moon which, along with gas lamps scattered in the park, cast a mysterious aura upon the unusual scene. The woman's long auburn hair flowed in restless waves down her back, a mass of wild curls. In daylight, at a later time, di Angelo would realize her eyes were brilliant lavender. Portions of her long lilac Renaissance dress floated atop the dark water while her soaked low cut bodice revealed a tight corset with lace up hooks beneath. Gabriella's pale, bare arms held a large dark object afloat on the water. She called out to di Angelo. "Captain! Help me lift her out of the water before she drowns!", Books.
