In The Life of the Buddha, Peter Della Santina describes how the values of renunciation, love and compassion, and wisdom are illustrated by various episodes in the life of the Buddha and how we can look at his life as a lesson on how to achieve Enlightenment. By cultivating these three values, the Buddhist practitioner is able to remove the afflictions of attachment, aversion and ignorance and attain Enlightenment. The Buddha Nature is a teaching given by Khenpo Appey Rinpoche and translated by Ngawang Samten. Rinpoche defines "Buddha nature" and explains the different signs of and obstacles to awakening Buddha nature. He also discusses the differences between the teachings of the Mind Only school and the Madhyamika school with respect to Buddha nature. The Five Paths to Enlightenment is a second teaching given by Khenpo Appey Rinpoche and translated by Ngawang Samten. Rinpoche describes in detail the paths of accumulation, application, seeing, meditation and no more learning and discusses the differences between the Hinayana and Mahayana traditions. The Ten Bhumis to Enlightenment is a third teaching given by Khenpo Appey Rinpoche and translated by Ngawang Samten. Rinpoche defines the term "bhumi" and describes in detail each of the ten Mahayana bhumis: the very joyful, the stainless, the issuing of light rays, the making of light rays, the purification of difficulties, direct manifestation, going to a far distance, the unshakeable, good intelligence and the cloud of dharma. The Qualities of the Buddha is a fourth teaching given by Khenpo Appey Rinpoche and translated by Ngawang Samten. In this teaching, Rinpoche defines the term "Buddha" and explains in detail the qualities of the Buddha, starting with the qualities of the three bodies of Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya and Nirmanakaya. Rinpoche explains these and the other special qualities of the Buddha, both according to Maitreya and Sakya Pandita. The Gift of Dharma to Kublai Khan is a teaching given by Choegyal Phagpa, the fifth founding master of the Sakya tradition, to the Mongolian king Kublai Khan. The teaching was translated by Acharya Lobsang Jamspal and Acharya Manjusiddhartha. Buddhist Tantra: Some Introductory Remarks is a teaching given by His Holiness Sakya Trizin. His Holiness begins the teaching by clarifying some misconceptions about Buddhist tantra and then defines the different meanings of the word "tantra." He then explains that tantra was taught by the Lord Buddha as part of the Mahayana Vehicle, which consists of the Paramitayana, the Perfection Vehicle, which is also known as the Cause Vehicle, and the Mantrayana, the Tantric (or Mantra) Vehicle, which is also known as the "Result Vehicle." His Holiness explains the differences between these two vehicles and explains why the Tantric Vehicle is superior to the Perfection Vehicle. His Holiness emphasizes the importance of the Guru and the lineage transmission as prerequisites for the practice of tantra, which should only be practice by a qualified disciple. His Holiness concludes by pointing out the differences and similarities between the general Mahayana and the Vajrayana and between Buddhist Tantra and Hindu Tantra. The following three songs were composed by Jetsun Dragpa Gyaltsen and translated from Tibetan into English by Acharya Migmar Tseten and Kunga Namdol. The Song Given to Yeshe Dorje describes the nine "limbs" of the Guru, abhisheka, samaya, hearing, upadesha, diligence, place, conducive circumstances, and dharma friends, each of which is a necessary condition to practicing the path. The complete realization of three additional limbs, wisdom, method and conduct, is the necessary condition to achieving Buddhahood. Thus, Buddhahood is achieved through these twelve limbs. The Instruction on Parting from the Four Attachments is a teaching based on the classic Sakyapa mind training of Freedom from the Four Attachments. It begins with meditations on the four co, Paperback, Label: Manjushri Press,US, Manjushri Press,US, Product group: Book, Published: 2000-12-20, Studio: Manjushri Press,US, Sales rank: 13887466.
