Trade unions today are recognized as legitimate social organizations and have become an integral part of business and industry. There has also been a decline in union membership in many countries including United States and Japan where they are trying to revive their trade unions. In recent years, there have been instances of new trade union movements like the setting up of workplace union branches in Wal-Mart within four weeks. Hyundai Motor Co., also has one of the most powerful and militant unions. Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India (Private) Ltd., also faced industrial unrest during recent times. BALCO faced a historic strike as an opposition to privatization.
