In short moral thinking by Indian philosophers has culminated in the teachings of the Gita which is both a Yoga sastra and a Brahmavidya. While Yoga sastra means Sastra containing ethical teachings Brahmavidya is the Sastra of metaphysical thoughts. In this work the author has discussed the central concepts enumerated in the Gita like value desire pleasure obligation conflicts etc. in normative as well as in analytical ways. It is interesting to note how Indian thinkers anticipated the contemporary issues centering moral philosophy and how they solved these though in a peculiar language which does not distinguish morality either from religion or metaphysics. To appreciate a classic like the Gita it is necessary to see its doctrines and theories as reflecting contemporary issues and contemporary philosophical thinking. 248 pp.
