World peace is achievable through reduction of debt or waiving out debt at the shortest possible time. Debt relief is not a slogan; it is a request, a prayer, a demand and a challenge to all the developed countries for award of amnesty to the low-income countries and developing countries as these countries are financially unsound for debt servicing. Debt relief is the moral duty and responsibility of the rich countries as they have received more money as compared to the grants and loans they have given to the poor countries. Today, 1.3 billion people manage their livelihood with less than US $1 per day, 2.8 billion people earn less than US $2 per day and one billion people are food-insecure. Hence, the rich, industrialized and developed countries, foreign funding institutions, International Monetary Fund, and international banks should accept humanitarian and moral responsibility to award debt relief to the debtor countries for creating an environment for world peace. Debt burden causes migraine to the debtor countries and it blocks economic progress; hampers social security; shrinks public sector institutions and chokes the prospects of hundreds of millions of world’s poorest people. Now, the question is why the poor people remained poor and why the poor countries are unable for debt servicing. The reasons may be: the rich countries award abundant debt in hard currencies for social welfare projects, which are not economically viable. Simply they invest their surplus funds for money lending, which pushes the poor countries to enter into debt trap. The debtor countries borrow foreign funds for development projects; but the political leaders, government officials and contractors misappropriate a major share of the borrowed funds; and these funds are converted into private properties. The governments of the poor countries spend the amount through false receipts without considering that debt must be repaid. It is observed that neither the creditors grant credit for productive purposes nor the debtors utilize the borrowed capital in profitable projects. As a result, the borrowed capital emerges as punitive and cursing measure for the poor people of developing countries. This alarming situation prevails in all the HIPCs and low-income countries. The debt burden continues to grow; poor countries pay more than what they receive; and they are now placed in debt bondage. The budgetary allocation on education and health care is earmarked less than debt servicing. The pay and pension of government officials has crossed the state gross domestic product.
