This manual gives a description of a muscle training therapy based on the human ability and inclination to maintain one s posture against external forces . The external forces applied here by the physical therapist increase gradually in strength. The muscular reactions of the patient increase in the same measure (postural resistance). The patient is placed in a given starting position, resembling normal alignment as closely as possible, and is asked to maintain this position against the gradually progressive pushing or pulling activities of the therapist, thus profiting automatically of the deep sensibility mechanisms in the joint. The exercises of Part One are meant for not-paralytic patients who are capable of muscular stabilisation of their joints. Analysis of the exercises and directives for treatment are also found in Part One, as well as an analytic table of the static exercises. In Part Two the treatment is adapted for patients with pareses, paralysis or serious postural deformities. The treatment aims at strengthening weak muscle groups while relaxing tight antagonists, thus restoring balance in muscle force.
